YOUR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS MATTER

Over 170 million Americans use TikTok every month, many of whom are creators, or small business owners who rely on the platform as their sole source of income in a time where every penny counts.

The ban was first introduced by President Trump in 2020, however this was not implemented due to legal challenges and was subsequently revoked in 2021 by the Biden administration.

In 2024, Congress voted to force TikTok to sell or face being banned, this was signed into law by President Biden and upheld despite an appeal filed to the US Supreme Court. TikTok went offline in the US briefly in January 2025.

President Trump has issued a 75 day delay to ban’s implementation. If TikTok is not sold by midnight on April 4th, as it stands it will be taken offline again on April 5th.

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING?

  • US users are reporting that certain searches are being censored since the app was restored after being taken offline briefly.
  • TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew has thanked President Trump in a TikTok post. The President was also personally named in popups during and after the brief ban in January.
  • The TikTok CEO also attended the inauguration of President Trump on 21st January.
  • Facebook created an official TikTok profile on the eve of the brief January ban.
  • Users are concerned that TikTok is now under the direct influence of the US Government.

Once you’ve signed up, download the app for your VPN provider from the App Store or Play Store.

Launch the app, change your location to outside of the United States and you can now access TikTok exactly as it was prior to the actions taken in January.

To get app updates (these are important), there’s a few extra steps to follow.

  • Sign Out of Apple ID: Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Sign Out.
  • Create a New Apple ID: In the App Store, choose Create New Apple ID, select the target country, and choose “None” for payment.
  • Sign In and Download TikTok: Log in with the new Apple ID and access apps from the new region.
  • Create a New Google Account: Go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google, and select the target country during setup.
  • Switch Accounts: Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, and select the new account.
  • Download TikTok: The Play Store will now show apps from the new region.
